Emergency money issues of the Second World War

The German occupation of the Netherlands in WWII resulted in a shortage of money. On 11 May, the central government, therefore, granted permission to issue emergency money. On 17 May the authorization was withdrawn. Nevertheless, 130 municipalities and three provinces issued their own money in this short period of time.
Almost all the emergency money was sent to the Department of Interior Relations after it had been repossessed and was then destroyed. However, a few samples of each issue were saved for their own collection as well as for that of the Nederlandsche Bank (Central Bank of the Netherlands).
