- Nippon, Von Siebold’s major work, includes a great number of pictures and much information on the Japanese language, culture and history. It also contains countless pictures of objects and places of interest he came across on his journey to the Shogun’s court. J.J. Hoffmann, Von Siebold’s most important student, who was later to be appointed as the first professor of Japanese, helped Von Siebold write Nippon.
