Mark Power sees the Dutch coast as the border between Great Britain and The Netherlands. Sea and coast are part of the common history of both countries. The paintings of naval battles in the Rijksmuseum bear witness to this fact. Although the coast has changed very much in the last three hundred years, there are still small distinguishing marks.
Details of paintings, combined with images of the coast in the year 2000 were joined together by Mark Power, thus creating short stories expressed in colour pictures: about monsters, people, the sea and the coast.
This is part of a series the Rijksmuseum's Dutch History Department organises in conjunction with the daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad under the title “ Document the Netherlands ”.
