Around the start of the Common era the Romans arrived in the region that is now the Netherlands. Many findings give us a clear impression of their influence in the Netherlands.
This collection includes an impressive selection of weaponry, eating and drinking utensils, bronze sculptures and jewelry. Very striking items in this collection are the Roman altars for the worship of Nehalennia, a goddess from Zeeland, patroness of fishermen. Also very special is the grave of the ‘lady of Simpelveld’, who from her Roman sarcophagus shows us what life was like in and around her house.
