bakkerij op Walden
Frederik van Eeden in front of the bakery at Walden
The Walden Colony was set up as an anticapitalist production cooperative. In spite of conflicts and lack of discipline, the settlers succeeded, with varying success, in running a market garden, a carpentry workshop, a chocolate factory and a bakery. Initially, the products were meant for the settlers’ own use, but they soon started selling them as well. The bakery survived longest.
